Preparation for change in cricket rules, big meeting of ICC from July 8, big decision will come on DRS
The ICC annual meeting will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 8 to 11 July. The biggest issue in this meeting will be to make DRS (Decision Review System) cheaper. Currently, providing DRS facility is very expensive and the cost per day reaches around Rs 10 lakh. For this reason many small cricket boards and domestic tournaments are not able to use it. Now ICC is considering giving opportunity to new companies to provide DRS service, so that its cost can be reduced. It is being told that some tech companies of India have also prepared a low-cost DRS system.
ICC will also discuss the rapidly growing franchise cricket leagues around the world in this meeting. The board will see whether new rules should be made for domestic leagues. Besides, the limit on foreign players and how to better coordinate franchise leagues with the schedule of international cricket will also be considered. With this, the cricket calendar can be decided in a better way in future.
Mauritius may get new membership
A proposal to grant Associate Membership of ICC to Mauritius Cricket Federation will also be presented in the meeting. If it is approved, Mauritius will become the 111th member of the ICC. At present ICC consists of 12 full member and 98 associate member countries. This will give Mauritius an opportunity to progress in international cricket.
Elections will be held for the post of Associate Director
Elections will also be held for three posts of Associate Member Director in ICC on July 8. Five candidates from UAE, Malaysia, France, Namibia and Singapore are in the fray for these posts. The decisions taken in this meeting can impact both international and domestic cricket in the future. Especially if DRS is cheaper then its use can be seen more in small countries and domestic tournaments also.
