Abrar Ahmed faces club vs country dilemma ahead of West Indies tour

Pakistan are set for a short two-match tour of the West Indies, which is to begin on 18th July with a four-day tour game against the West Indies. Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmedas per reports, is in a massive fix ahead of the Caribbean tour. The 27-year-old is contracted to Sunrisers Leeds in the upcoming Hundred 2026 season.

It is to be noted that four IPL franchise owners have heavily invested in the tournament. Mumbai Indiansowned by Mukesh Ambani, have a 49% stake in the Oval Invincibles, which has been renamed to MI London. Lucknow Super Giants’ owners bought the Manchester Originals with a 70% stake.

Northern Superchargers were purchased outright by Sun TV network and renamed Sunrisers Leeds, for which the Pakistani bowler is set to play. Delhi Capitals’ co-owners, the GMR Group, brought a 49% stake in Southern Brave to show the growing clout of IPL owners around the world.

A report carried by Telecom Asia Sport stated an unnamed source saying, “Abrar and his agent are in a fix because if he is selected for the Test team to play in the West Indies, it will affect his participation in The Hundred, which starts four days before the first Test.”

Sunrisers’ owners had faced massive heat in India for picking Abrar in the draft. Telecom Asia Sport also quoted the source as saying, “The Sunrisers Leeds owners have already faced criticism from 1.4 billion people and stood by their decision. Abrar must play in The Hundred.” Leeds will kick off the Hundred 2026 season by playing the opening game against MI London at the Oval on 21st July.

Pakistan team to be announced on Monday

Pakistan will play their first game on 25th July, four days after the Hundred 2026 season begins. The second Test will start on 2nd August, and both games are set to be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
