1. Iranian Ambassador Fazli informed that work is underway on a joint arrangement for the Strait of Hormuz, in which Iran and Oman are playing major roles. The objective of this scheme is said to be to strengthen maritime security, traffic control and environmental protection.
2. According to Fazli, Iran is considering charging service fees from ships, but it should not be called a toll tax. He says that this fee will be taken to maintain maritime services, security and surveillance system. However, it has not yet been made clear how much this fee will be and on the basis of which parameters it will be decided.
3. The Iranian ambassador also indicated that countries that have supported Iran in difficult circumstances may be given special concessions or different treatment in this new arrangement. However, he did not name any country nor did he clarify what the nature of the concession would be.
4. According to American media reports, about 50 ships have passed through this area in recent days. It has also been claimed that many ships are traveling with their Electronic Identification System (AIS) switched off, making their live tracking difficult.
5. Reports also say that with ships turning off their AIS systems, their location does not appear on public tracking systems. This makes it challenging for maritime surveillance agencies to monitor their activities.
6. An American official has alleged that the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy is trying to pressure or intimidate ships by contacting ships through VHF radio. However, despite these allegations, it has also been said that maritime traffic has not been completely affected and the movement of ships is continuing.
7. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a statement saying that it will continue to follow the path of its slain leaders and soldiers. The IRGC also said that it will maintain the security of the Strait of Hormuz and will not abandon its stance against the US and Israel. According to the organization, the new leadership is also carrying forward this policy.
