A big personality in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) education world, Professor K.K. Condoling the demise of Abdul Ghaffar. He played a huge role in the establishment and development of Gulf Medical University. His departure is being considered a big loss in the field of education.

Professor Abdul Ghaffar died on Sunday morning, 5 July 2026, at his home in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. He was 88 years old and was ill for some time. His family informed Gulf News that his passing is a huge loss to the academic community he served for decades.
Professor Abdul Ghaffar was an Indian expatriate living in UAE. He was known as an excellent techno-educationist, consultant engineer and author. He greatly helped in improving engineering and medical education both in UAE and India. He was the senior director and commissioning lead of Gulf Medical University in Ajman. This university was previously known as Gulf Medical College and was the first private medical college in the UAE. It is due to his efforts that this institute has become a leading medical institute of this region today.
His family said that his honesty, humility and spirit of service will continue to inspire generations to come. He is survived by his wife Jamila Shamnad and four children—Dr. Shajir Ghaffar, Dr. Farida Ghaffar, Dr. Jamlounisa Ghaffar and Shahnaz Ghaffar.
His funeral prayer will be held at Kunnil Rifai Masjid, Chowki in Kasaragod, Kerala at 12 noon on Monday and after that he will be buried there.
