“Feels weird when…”: Jacob Bethell gives hilarious take on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s historic debut
England batter Jacob Bethell was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 76 during the second T20I match. The left-handed batter’s knock helped the hosts beat current T20 World Cup winners India by four wickets with an over to spare in Manchester on Saturday.
The game was also memorable as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his historic debut at the age of 15. Speaking at the end of the game, Bethell was asked to comment on the Rajasthan Royals batter, to which he said: “Feels weird playing against someone seven years younger than me.”

Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter also said, “Watched him bat in India and also saw him today. The swing of his bat and everything is so pure. He is an unbelievable talent.” Vaibhav played ten balls to score 14 runs with two huge sixes before he was out to Will Jacks in the fifth over.
22-year-old English star turns India’s nemesis once again
Men in Blue had withstood Jacob’s storm when the batter scored 105 runs in the T20 World Cup semi-finals at the Wankhede Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav’s side had held their nerves to win the game by seven runs and make it to the final and win the title.
On Saturday, the southpaw dug deep and made up for a slow start with an impressive assault. Speaking at the end of the game to Naseer Hussain, the batter was asked if he was making up for his memorable knock in Mumbai. To which he said, “Really enjoyed the knock in the semi-finals, but we didn’t get over the line. It’s just that I’ve played them on two pretty nice pitches. And, yeah, you want to do well against the best teams in the world.”
Ravi Bishnoi’s 29-run over gave England the charge, with Bethell in particular taking full advantage. The southpaw spoke about the eventful over and said, “When there are few free hits and the bowler is low on confidence, you try and take him on. Worked out really well in the end.”
