New Delhi: The entire area is angry after the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in a pond in Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Sunday. Family members allege that the girl was raped and killed and her body was thrown into the water. After the incident, people blocked the road and vandalized it extensively.
How did the girl disappear?
According to the police, the girl had left home on Saturday afternoon to buy a gift for her friend’s birthday. When he did not return till late, the family started searching for him.
His body was found in a pond in Baruipur on Sunday morning. The body has been sent to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem. The real cause of death and rape will be confirmed only after the report comes.
Angry mob created ruckus, beat one to death
As soon as the news of the dead body spread, people took to the streets. The protesters blocked the Baruipur-Jaynagar road, burnt tires and vandalized several police vehicles. The mob caught a 26-year-old youth on suspicion of rape-murder and beat him to death.
The family alleges that a total of 4 people were involved in this incident. A policeman was also injured in the clash. The protesters were throwing bricks, glass bottles and stones at the police.
IGP ordered investigation, central force deployed
Seeing the situation worsening, the administration has deployed additional police forces and central forces in the area. Security has been tightened in Baruipur. IGP Presidency Range Kankarprasad Barui reached the spot.
He said, "We have taken cognizance of the incident. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. No one will be spared. Investigation is ongoing, more information will be given after the report." The police have also formed a SIT i.e. Special Investigation Team to investigate the case.
CM spoke to the family on phone
According to sources, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari spoke to the girl’s father on phone. He assured the family that the culprits would be given strict punishment. At present there is tension in the village.
Police are patrolling the area and appealing to people to maintain peace. After this painful incident, local people are demanding justice and security. Police say that the entire matter will be revealed only after the post-mortem report and investigation.
