Only 14 runs in the debut match, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi created a special record with two sixes, even Kohli-Rohit and Abhishek Sharma could not achieve this feat.
New Delhi . In the second T20 International match against England, young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a memorable start for the Indian team. In the very first international innings, he showed aggressive batting and hit two brilliant sixes and got his name registered in a special record, which even many of India’s great batsmen could not achieve in their debut match. Although his innings could not last long and he was out after scoring 14 runs, but his confidence and ability to play big shots attracted everyone’s attention.
Before the match, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was handed the debut cap by the Indian team. He adopted a positive attitude as soon as he entered the field and made his intentions clear by hitting a brilliant six against England’s fast bowler Joffra Archer. After this he also hit an attractive six on the ball of Josh Tong. Thanks to these two big shots, he joined the list of select players from India who have hit more than one six in their T20 International debut match.
Very few players have achieved this feat so far in Indian cricket. Names like Ashish Nehra, Murali Vijay, Rahul Dravid, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma were already included in this list. Now Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also become a part of this special club. The special thing is that India’s legendary batsmen Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Sharma could not achieve this feat in their T20 international debut.
Even in the current Indian team, the number of players with this record is limited. Tilak Verma scored 39 runs with the help of three sixes in his first T20 International match against West Indies in the year 2023. Whereas Ishan Kishan, while making his debut against England in 2021, played an innings of 56 runs, in which four sixes came off his bat. The name of former Indian captain Rahul Dravid is also included in this list. In his only T20 International match, he hit three sixes while scoring 31 runs in 21 balls.
However, despite the individual achievement of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the Indian team could not succeed in winning the match. Batting first, India scored a challenging score of 190 runs in the stipulated overs. Chasing the target, England batted aggressively and won the match in the 19th over with four wickets remaining.
Jacob Bethall played the most important role in England’s victory. He played a brilliant inning of 76 unbeaten runs to take the team to the target and was adjudged Player of the Match for his match-winning batting. On the other hand, the most positive aspect of this match for the Indian team was the confident debut of Vaibhav Suryavanshi. His batting indicated that in the times to come, he could prove to be a useful player for the middle order of the Indian team. Also, this special record made in the very first match made the beginning of his international career memorable.
