An American official said on July 5, 2026 that their allies are ready to participate in the security of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron issued a joint statement on July 3. He said that this route is very important for the global economy, so they are ready to send a multinational military mission here. Oman has also talked about working together with Britain and France to ensure safe passage in its maritime areas.

An organization supervised by the US Navy said that in the last 72 hours they have helped 70 ships cross the route. However, the traffic is less than before and the danger level is still quite high. At the same time, NATO leaders will meet in Ankara on July 7 and 8 to decide how to help the ships.

On the other hand, Iran has strongly opposed the military activities of outside countries. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi warned that the region is not a place for outside powers to show their power. Iran also announced on July 5 that now ships passing through this route will have to pay a ‘service fee’, although some friendly countries will be exempted from this. Iran says that it is the real security guarantor of this sea route.

According to the report of maritime intelligence firm Windward, on July 4, ships faced a lot of problems in the southern corridor of this area. Many ships had to change their routes or turn back. France and Britain have planned to send a force to remove mines from this route, but Iran has rejected this, calling it interference in its affairs.

Not only this, Iran, Russia and China are going to conduct a joint naval exercise named ‘Maritime Security Belt 2026’ in the Strait of Hormuz this month. The armies of Russia and China have already completed their exercises near Chengdu, China.
