Islamabad: PAF group captain dies while trying to save woman, accused caught in 9 hours

A brave officer in Islamabad risked his life to save the life of a woman. Group Captain Asim Tariq of Pakistan Air Force tried to save a woman from kidnapping, but during this the attacker shot him, due to which he died on the spot.

This incident happened on July 17, 2024 at around 11:21 am near Shaheen Chowk of Ninth Avenue. Group Captain Asim Tariq saw that a man was trying to forcefully take away a woman, named Nimra, on a motorcycle. He immediately stopped his car and came in between to protect the woman. Meanwhile the accused opened fire on them.

Police action and arrest of the accused

Islamabad Police acted very quickly and arrested the accused Saad Abbasi within 9 hours of the incident. This 20 year old youth is a resident of Abbottabad and worked at the same electronics shop where Nimra also worked. The woman told that Saad tricked her into giving her a lift and then started forcefully taking her to another place.

IGP Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said that 11 teams were formed to nab the accused. Police used Safe City cameras, AI technology and digital surveillance. The accused tried to escape by changing his clothes and switching off his phone, but he was caught. Initial investigation has revealed that he had done a similar act with a woman earlier also.
