The famous dialogue was not in the script, the VFX scene was prepared on the creative thinking of Rakesh Bedi, a memorable moment in ‘Dhurandhar’
New Delhi .Many times in film making, the spontaneous creativity of artists creates such memorable moments, which later become the identity of the entire film. Something similar happened with the famous film ‘Dhurandhar’, when an impromptu improvisation by actor Rakesh Bedi not only made a simple scene special, but also had to cost extra in the film’s budget to make it effective on screen.
Rakesh Bedi played the role of Jamil Jamali in the film. His role was limited in the first part, but his acting and dialogues in the second part attracted special attention of the audience. Many of his scenes became a topic of discussion on social media and among the audience, out of which a particular dialogue was the most popular.
This dialogue was not part of the original script. During the shooting, Rakesh Bedi suggested adding a new dialogue to suit his character. The director found this experiment so impressive that he decided to include it in the final version. However, to make the dialogues completely logical with the visuals, VFX had to be resorted to later.
In the scene, the actor is seen sitting in a location resembling the office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan and delivering dialogues in a mildly sarcastic tone. To give the correct context to this dialogue, during post-production, the scene of the pond and the ducks swimming in it was created using digital technology in the background. This additional visual effects work also increased the film’s production costs.
Rakesh Bedi, while mentioning this entire experience during a program, said that when he spoke this dialogue, no such background was present on the set. Later the director realized that if the pond and ducks were added to the scene, both the humor and impact of the dialogue would increase manifold. With this in mind, the entire background was created through VFX.
This scene became very popular among the audience after the release of the film. This dialogue received a strong response from the audience in theaters and it came to be counted among the most memorable comedy scenes of the film. Many viewers later mentioned this scene and included it among the special achievements of the film.
‘Dhurandhar’ and its second part received widespread support from the audience. The film achieved major commercial success on the basis of its story, presentation and acting of the cast. Rakesh Bedi’s acting along with Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and other actors was also highly appreciated.
After the success of the film, Rakesh Bedi’s career also got new momentum. He started getting frequent opportunities on various advertising projects, stage shows and other entertainment platforms. At the same time, this famous scene of ‘Dhurandhar’ became an example of the fact that sometimes the innate creative thinking of an artist turns into the most memorable moments of the film and to make it effective, technology and additional resources are also used.
