Sri Lankan prisons Riots: 4 guards and 19 prisoners killed, more than 100 injured in riots in Sri Lankan prison

Sri Lankan prisons riots: There was a stir in the main jail of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, when there was a clash throughout the night between the prisoners of two gangs involved in the drug trade. In this violence, 4 guards and 19 prisoners were killed while more than 100 people were injured. Following the violence, the injured were taken to Negombo Hospital, north of Colombo.

Hospital director Pushpa Gamlath said that 23 bodies were brought to her government hospital and more than 100 injured prisoners and guards were also admitted. “Some have been shot, while others have cuts and serious injuries,” Gamlath told AFP by telephone.
