CBI conducts searches at 26 locations across 11 states in BRO fund misappropriation case
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday carried out searches at 26 locations across 11 states and Union Territories in connection with an alleged misappropriation of funds in the Border Roads Organization (BRO), officials said.
The searches were conducted in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland as part of an investigation into four criminal cases linked to alleged financial irregularities in BRO projects.
Probe Linked to Fake Casual Labor Payments
According to the CBI, the cases involve alleged irregularities in the deployment of casual laborers and the release of payments in the names of fake workers under Project Vijayak and Project Yojak in Ladakh.
The agency registered four FIRs based on complaints filed by the Ministry of Defense following an internal inquiry conducted by the Technical Board of Officers of the BRO.
Officials, Private Individuals Named
The investigation pertains to alleged misappropriation of government funds, cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
A total of 10 officers, including Lieutenant Colonels, Major Engineers, and certain private individuals, have been named in the FIRs, the agency said.
Documents, Digital Evidence Seized
During the searches, the CBI recovered several incriminating documents and digital evidence, which will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The agency said the probe is continuing and reiterated its commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation into the alleged financial irregularities at the earliest.
