Auto-loader drivers protest at Transport Commissioner’s office regarding demands
Lucknow. On Monday, July 6 in the capital Lucknow, under the banner of Uttar Pradesh Auto-Load Joint Welfare Committee (Registered), light load vehicle (small elephant/pickup) drivers demonstrated strongly at the Transport Commissioner’s office in Lucknow with their various demands. During the demonstration, the committee officials symbolically protested against the state government and the transport department by performing Pinda Daan and later submitted a memorandum regarding their demands to the Transport Commissioner. State president of the committee, Rajeev Jaiswal said that like DCM and other big vehicles, small elephant (pickup) vehicles should also be given practical relaxation in the overload limit.
Poor drivers are being financially exploited due to huge challans being issued for minor overloads and they are facing employment crisis. State Vice President Jitendra Kumar Ratan said that uniformity should be implemented in entry fees and other charges in all the transport offices of the state, so that there is no unnecessary financial burden on small vehicle drivers. State Secretary Ankur Gupta demanded that the benefit of surcharge waiver and tax exemption announced by the Chief Minister should be made available to all eligible vehicle owners as soon as possible and it should be implemented with immediate effect on the portal of the Transport Department.
State Executive President Anuj Yadav said that practical amendments should be made in toll plaza fees, overload fines and other rules keeping in mind the interests of small commercial vehicle drivers, so that the livelihood of thousands of families can be protected. Committee officials warned that if positive action is not taken soon on their demands, then light load vehicle drivers across the state will be forced to launch a massive agitation in a democratic manner. On this occasion, State President Raju (Rajeev) Jaiswal, State Vice President Jitendra Kumar Ratan, State Secretary Ankur Gupta, State Executive President Anuj Yadav, Shamshad Ali Guddu and a large number of drivers and committee members were present.
