Tyus Jones Returns to Denver Nuggets on One-Year Contract

Veteran point guard Tyus Jones is heading back to the Denver Nuggets, agreeing to a one-year contract to remain with the franchise for the 2026-27 NBA season, according to ESPN. The move keeps an experienced floor general in Denver’s backcourt as the team continues building around reigning MVP Nikola Jokić.

Jones first joined the Nuggets late in the 2025-26 season after signing with the team on the buyout market. Although he played a reserve role, the 30-year-old quickly became a reliable contributor off the bench, providing steady ball handling, smart decision-making, and valuable veteran leadership during the Nuggets’ playoff push.

Known as one of the NBA’s most efficient backup point guards, Jones has built a reputation for taking care of the basketball while running the offense effectively. Throughout his 11-year NBA career, he has consistently ranked among the league leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio, making him a dependable option whenever Denver needs stability in the second unit.

The Nuggets value Jones’ experience and ability to organize the offense when Jokić or the starting guards are resting. His familiarity with head coach David Adelman’s system also made a return an attractive option for both sides.

Jones enters his 12th NBA season after previous stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, and the Denver Nuggets. His postseason experience and unselfish style of play continue to make him a valuable role player for championship-contending teams.

With Jones back in the fold, Denver strengthens its bench depth and maintains an experienced backcourt rotation as the Nuggets aim to compete for another NBA title during the 2026-27 campaign.
