Seven people died after a three-storey house under construction collapsed in Mankhurd.

Mumbai Seven people have died after a three-storey under-construction house collapsed on the adjacent house at Mankhurd’s Mandla Janata Nagar at around 9 pm on Sunday. The dead include a woman and six children.

In this incident, it is feared that one person may be buried under the debris, the search for whom is going on. As soon as information about the incident was received, the fire brigade and NDRF team reached the spot and are carrying out relief and rescue operations. The team of Mankhurd police station is investigating this matter.

The police officer investigating the case told the media that today the construction work of a three-storey house was done in a chawl located in Mandala Janta Nagar. Today, due to rain throughout the day, this under construction house suddenly collapsed on the adjacent house at around 9 pm. Six people have died in this incident and one person is being searched. A thorough investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Mumbai Municipal Corporation Mayor Ritu Tawde said that this incident is very sad. In this incident, illegal construction fell on the adjacent house. Due to this, a woman and her three children in the adjacent house along with three children of the neighboring house got buried under construction. All of them were immediately pulled out from the debris and five people were taken to Shatabdi Hospital and two to Rajawadi Hospital, but doctors in both the hospitals declared all these seven people dead. Ritu Tawde said that Mumbai Municipal Corporation team and Fire Brigade team are doing relief and rescue work at the incident site. The mayor said that the collapsed house was built illegally on the collector’s land.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief state spokesperson and local councilor Navnath Ban said that till now six people have been killed in this incident as the house under construction was completely illegal. Due to the narrow lane here, there was difficulty in reaching the ambulance. There is a possibility of more people being buried under the debris at the spot, hence the debris is being investigated carefully. Police team is working along with NDRF and Mumbai Municipal Corporation team on the spot.
