Rain continues to wreak havoc in Maharashtra, schools and colleges also closed

Due to torrential rains in many parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai and Pune on Monday, life and traffic system was completely disrupted. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain in Nashik district on July 7. The administration is on alert due to fear of heavy rainfall in Trimbakeshwar, Igatpuri, Peth, Dindori and Nashik rural areas.

Due to security reasons, it has also been decided to keep Trimbakeshwar and Saptashringi temples closed for a day. Nashik Collector has appealed that the devotees who have planned to visit Trimbakeshwar on July 7, should postpone their journey for the time being, as there is a strong possibility of traffic and darshan arrangements being affected due to heavy rains. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has reviewed the situation and as a precautionary measure it has been decided to keep all schools and colleges of these 5 taluks closed.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, heavy rains are continuing in Surgana taluka of Nashik district. Due to this rain the ‘Nar’ river has overflowed. Traffic has also been disrupted due to water flowing over the footpath bridge over the river. Heavy rain is expected in the next few hours and the administration has appealed to the citizens living along the river banks to remain alert.

Along with this, red alert of heavy rain has been issued in 3 districts of Maharashtra, there is alert of heavy rain in Thane, Nashik and Raigarh. Orange alert has been issued regarding rain in Mumbai even today and schools and colleges of the city will also remain closed. Indian Navy and NDRF are on alert.

People in Vasai Virar are dependent on candles, there is no electricity for the last 12 hours. Due to lack of inverter, the women of the house have to cook by candlelight. Along with this, there is no electricity in Sai Vinayak Cooperative Housing Society in Nalasopara East for the last nine hours and there is still no trace of electricity. That’s why the people here are very worried.

Due to continuous rain, tracks number 3 and 4 of Nalasopara railway station are still submerged. There is a possibility of rail operations being affected due to water logging on the tracks. Railways and related agencies are working to drain the water. Passengers have been appealed to check the status of their train before leaving for the journey.

There is news of a major accident at JNPT’s Nava Sheva Free Port Terminal in Uran, Navi Mumbai. It is reported that a container fell from the ship during port operation, a worker suffered serious injuries in this accident. Emergency response teams reached the spot immediately after the accident. The injured laborer has been sent for medical treatment, the exact reason for this accident is not yet known.

Due to continuous torrential rains in the Western Ghats region of Pune district, the inflow of water into Ujni Dam has increased rapidly. 1 lakh 45 thousand 561 cusecs of water is being released into Bhima river from Daund Barrage, due to which Bhima river is flowing with its full speed. An increase of about 4.25 TMC water has been recorded in Ujni Dam in the last 48 hours.

The water level of Panchganga river is rising rapidly in Kolhapur.

Due to continuous torrential rains for the last six days in Kolhapur district, the water level of Panchganga river is rising rapidly. The water level of the river has reached 35 feet and is now moving towards the warning level. Due to the continuously rising water level, the Panchganga river has come out of its banks at many places and water has started spreading in the nearby fields.

Increase in water storage in reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai

There has been a huge increase in water storage in the last 24 hours in the reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai. At present, the total water storage in the seven reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai is 28.92%. An increase of about 12 percent has been recorded in water storage in the last 24 hours. There has been a significant increase in water storage due to torrential rains in the reservoir areas yesterday.
