What is on PM Modi’s agenda?

According to sources, along with this, Indonesia also wants to increase the number of its BrahMos missiles. For this, India can provide additional BrahMos missile batteries to Jakarta. Defense cooperation has emerged as an important pillar in the relations between India and Indonesia. In the last few years, joint military exercises and defense cooperation between the two countries have continuously increased. Under this cooperation, Indonesia has also purchased India’s indigenous BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

Under another important initiative, India will also help in developing special electronic voting machines (EVMs) for Indonesia. This is being considered a great example of increasing confidence in India’s election management system and institutional cooperation between the two countries.

How dangerous is Astra missile?

  • Astra (meaning weapon in Sanskrit) is India’s all-weather Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM). It has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for the Indian Air Force and Navy.
  • Many versions of this missile have been prepared, whose range ranges from 500 meters to 340 kilometers. Astra Mark-1 has been included in the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter planes of the Indian Air Force.
  • It will be included in almost all the fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force, while Mirage-2000 will remain separate from it. It will also be included in the Rafale fighter planes of the Indian Navy. The full production of this missile was approved in the year 2024.
  • This missile is capable of hitting targets at an altitude of up to 20 kilometers.
  • Its maximum speed is Mach 4.5.
  • Its length is 3.84 meters, width is 178 mm and weight is about 160 kg.
  • High-Explosive (HE) pre-fragmented warhead has been installed in it.
  • Dual-pulse rocket motor has been used in Astra Mark-2, due to which its range ranges from 200 to 240 kilometers.
  • Astra Mark-3 (Gandiva) is still in the development stage. Solid-fuel ducted ramjet (SFDR) technology is being used in it, due to which its range is expected to reach 340 kilometers.
