Gujarat Serial Blast Case: Gujarat High Court has given a big verdict in the serial bomb blast case that took place in Ahmedabad in 2008. The High Court has approved the order of the Special Court. The court has upheld the death sentence given to 38 terrorists in the case. The High Court has also upheld the life imprisonment awarded to 11 terrorists.
Along with this, the High Court has also issued an order to give compensation to the victims. The court said that a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each should be given to the families of the 56 people killed in the blast and Rs 1 lakh each to the more than 200 injured.
The bomb was hidden in the bike
On July 26, 2008, there were 21 bomb blasts one after the other in about 70 minutes in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. 56 people were killed in the blasts. More than 200 people have been injured. It is being said that the bomb was hidden in the bike. The attackers had even targeted buses, markets and hospitals of the city. Security forces had also recovered bombs from Surat. The terrorist organization Indian Mujahideen had taken responsibility for the attack. It is said that this blast was carried out to avenge the Gujarat riots of 2002.
28 people were acquitted by the court
The government had made 78 people accused in the case and had registered 35 separate cases. A special court was formed to hear the case. The hearing lasted for about 14 years and the Special Court gave its verdict in February 2022. In 2022, the Special Court had sentenced 38 out of 49 to death and 11 to life imprisonment. At the same time, due to lack of evidence, 28 people were acquitted by the court. For the first time in the judicial history of India, 38 convicts were sentenced to death.
Special court gave verdict of more than 6700 pages
Statements of more than 1,150 witnesses were recorded in the special court in the case. The special court had given its verdict of more than 6,700 pages on 8 February 2022. The convicts challenged the decision of the Special Court in the High Court, on which the High Court has given its verdict today i.e. on Tuesday.
