Adam Sandler’s emotional role in Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce’s wedding explained

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s mutual decision to have Adam Sandler officiate their wedding has been explained.

According to PEOPLEthe 59-year-old actor and comedian didn’t hesitate to say yes when asked to play an integral role in the megastar singer and NFL star’s special day, which took place on Friday, July 3, during a star-studded ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

“He was incredibly honoured to be part of such a special day,” an insider told the outlet, adding that Sandler was the “perfect person” to officiate the wedding because he has been happily married to his wife, Jackie, for 23 years.

The Happy Gilmore star simply wanted to speak from the heart and share his own positive experience of being married for more than two decades.

“He wasn’t trying to find the perfect words or make it this big production. He just wanted to speak from the heart and pass along a little wisdom that he’s gained from his own happy marriage,” the source explained.

The insider’s comments came after Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed the words of wisdom Sandler shared with Swift and Kelce during the ceremony.

“Adam Sandler did the ceremony there, so he mentioned, ‘Kiss her every chance you have.’ So I think that, in its own simple way, that’s a pretty good message,” Reid told KSL News.

He added, “Kiss her before bed, kiss her before you go to work, all those things. It’s hard to argue when you’re kissing somebody.”

The Chiefs coach also encouraged the newlyweds to do their best to end any minor disagreements with a kiss and work through their differences together.

The couple, who began dating in the summer of 2023 and got engaged in August 2025, tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony attended by nearly 1,000 guests at Madison Square Garden, where they exchanged 20-minute vows.

Instead of having traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce chose their brothers, Austin Swift and Jason Kelce, to serve as maid of honour and best man, respectively, according to a statement from the singer’s publicist, Tree Paine.
