West Bengal minister calls for inquiry report on rape case

West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul stated on Tuesday that the police responded swiftly in the rape and murder case of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, apprehending all accused within 24 hours. She accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of politicizing the incident and demanded the release of pending inquiry reports on crimes against women during former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s tenure.

“There is a zero-tolerance policy against crime, and it will be implemented just as the Chief Minister has said. Within 24 hours, all the accused whose names appeared in the FIR in the Baruipur case have been apprehended. This morning, when the police were taking him to recreate the crime scene, he tried to flee and attempted to attack the police. This will not be tolerated,” she said.

Criticizing the TMC, Paul alleged that women did not receive justice during the party’s rule. “The former Chief Minister should march, but first and foremost, the commission’s report that was supposed to come; bring that report… We want to know what conversation you had with Vineet Goyal at night regarding the RG Kar case… You should hold candlelight marches for those thousands of rape cases that occurred in West Bengal during your tenure,” she added.
