Arvind Kejriwal on Ethanol: Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to 29 auto manufacturing companies of the country, demanding to clarify within a week whether it is safe to use E-20 (20 percent ethanol blended petrol) in old vehicles? He has written a separate letter to Toyota, Hero and Maruti, which claimed in the government press conference that the use of E-20 in old vehicles is safe.
In this he has asked that your owner manual does not allow 10 percent ethanol blended petrol in old vehicles under any circumstances. In such a situation, all three companies should tell the country in writing whether E-20 is safe in old vehicles and whether the mileage is reduced by only 4-5 percent. Also, will the three companies compensate the consumer if the mileage of the vehicle decreases by more than 5-10 percent or if any component gets damaged?
Auto companies will compensate consumers
Arvind Kejriwal has written a second letter to 26 other companies and asked them to clarify whether it is possible to use E-20 in their old vehicles? By using this, how many particles will fall on the vehicle and how much damage will be caused? Will auto companies compensate the consumer if the mileage of a vehicle decreases or any component gets damaged? He also said that on Thursday I will go to some petrol pumps, service centers and mechanics to know the opinion of consumers regarding E-20 petrol.
I will write a letter to the auto companies
While addressing a press conference with the party’s Delhi state president at the AAP headquarters on Wednesday, Arvind Kejriwal said that on Tuesday I had said that I will write a letter to all the auto manufacturing companies making petrol-based two-wheelers and four-wheelers in the country asking them to clear their stand whether E-20 can be used in their old vehicles. On Wednesday I am writing a letter to 29 auto manufacturing companies.
E-20 should be used in old vehicles
Arvind Kejriwal said that out of 29 companies, separate letters have been written to three companies and separate letters have been written to the remaining 26 companies. These three companies are Maruti, Toyota Kirlaskar and Hero, who had said in the government press conference on July 4 that it is safe if E-20 is used in old vehicles. Only a little mileage of the vehicle falls, three-four or five percent, but there is no damage to the vehicle. Therefore, separate letters have been written to these companies.
Ethanol blended petrol is not used…
Arvind Kejriwal told that in the letter written to Toyota, Maruti and Hero, you have said in the government press conference on July 4 that E-20 can be used in old vehicles, the mileage is reduced by 4-5 percent, but there is no damage to the vehicle. But the owner manual tells you that under no circumstances should more than 10 percent ethanol blended petrol be used in old vehicles manufactured before 2023. There is a contradiction in both these situations. The owner’s manual issued by these companies, which is an agreement between the consumer and the company, says one thing and representatives of the companies go to government press conferences and say something else.
Mileage reduced by more than 5 to 10 percent
Arvind Kejriwal said that this is not a minor mistake or anomaly. What is the real situation of these companies, they should make it public in writing before the country. Within a week of receiving the letter, these companies should give a clear answer whether E-20 petrol can be used in old vehicles? Does it reduce the mileage by only 4-5 percent and does it not cause any damage to the vehicle? If so, then two questions have been asked to them that if someone’s mileage is reduced by more than 5 to 10 percent, will they compensate that consumer? If any component gets damaged due to use of E-20, will the consumer be compensated for the component?
Use of E-20 in vehicles before 2023
Arvind Kejriwal said that a general letter has been written to 26 other companies. It is written that many people use their product. So they should clear their stand. Because at present there is a lot of controversy going on regarding E-20. They should clear their stand whether E-20 can be used in their old vehicles before 2023? Will the mileage reduce because of that? If it decreases, by how much will it be and will there be any loss due to it?
Will they compensate for component damage?
Arvind Kejriwal said that if these companies say that E-20 is safe, then will they compensate for the loss in mileage and will they compensate for the loss of components? I hope all the companies will respond to this because this is a very serious matter for all consumers. I hope all the companies respond within a week, because everyone’s owner manuals say one thing and publicly some companies have said something else.
The government says it’s safe
Arvind Kejriwal said that on Thursday I will visit some petrol pumps, service centers and some mechanics. I will talk to people to see what they say. The government is adamant that it will impose E-20 on everyone. The government says that it is safe, it does nothing, it just reduces the mileage a little and it is not causing any harm. But what are the people saying, what is the public’s experience?
It is not right to speak anti-national and terrorist
Arvind Kejriwal said that in between these people start calling the public anti-national, some start calling them lobbying. Now they are seeing that their own big bloggers and big influencers are abusing them on social media. In this way, it is not right to call 140 crore people anti-national and terrorists. When the public is unhappy across party lines, it is the responsibility of a responsible government to listen to the voice of the public. Their decision is against science, logic and engineering. Obviously this is not in public interest. We still don’t understand whose interest this is.
