Strong earthquake felt in Maharashtra, intensity 4.6 on Richter scale
Mumbai: Nature’s disturbance has once again frightened people in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Earthquake tremors were felt in Hingoli district and its surrounding areas on Thursday morning. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at about 4.6 on the Richter scale. It is a matter of relief that these shocks that occurred early in the morning caused panic among the people, but there was no immediate news of any loss of life or property or damage to major property.
Tremor felt in three districts
According to initial reports, the main epicenter of this earthquake was Hingoli district. However, its tremors were clearly felt in the neighboring districts of Parbhani and Nanded also. Local residents said that suddenly in the morning a slight vibration started inside the houses, due to which even the utensils kept at some places started rattling. Due to panic, many people immediately ran out of their homes to safe places. However, the situation soon returned to normal and no building collapse or any civilian injury was reported.
Experts expressed this opinion
As soon as the news of the earthquake was received, the district administration and disaster management teams immediately became active. Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation. Geologists and experts say that such earthquakes of low to medium intensity keep occurring due to natural movements in the upper layers of the earth. Such seismic activities have been seen in the past in Hingoli, Nanded and Parbhani belts, which shows that this area is tectonically sensitive.
There was a strong shock in April also
It is noteworthy that in the month of April this year also a strong tremor of 4.7 magnitude was felt in Hingoli. At that time, Hingoli Collector Rahul Gupta had informed that there were cracks in the walls of some houses and community buildings in Pangra Shinde village. Even at that time, there was minor structural damage in many taluks of Nanded and Parbhani, but no one died.
What to do during an earthquake?
Don’t panic: The most important rule is to remain calm. People often take wrong decisions in panic, which increases the risk of injury.
Don’t run out blindly: When the ground is shaking, don’t try to run out quickly. At such times, the risk of getting injured due to falling debris or glass from buildings is highest. Go under a strong table or bed.
Do not use the lift at all: People living in multi-storey buildings should never use the lift to go down. Do not use lift during earthquake. Always use stairs only.
