Esports World Cup 2026 begins in Paris with star-studded opening ceremony
The Esports World Cup 2026 officially got underway in Paris on Wednesday with a grand opening ceremony at La Seine Musicale, marking the first time the global tournament is being staged outside its previous host nation.
The ceremony welcomed players, esports clubs, publishers, creators and fans from more than 100 countries ahead of seven weeks of competition. More than 2,000 players representing 200 clubs will compete across 25 tournaments in 24 game titles for a record prize pool of $75 million.
Blending live music, cinematic visuals and elements of Parisian culture, the event celebrated the start of the tournament while introducing the French capital as the new host city. Performances by French artists Aya Nakamura, DJ Snake, Theodora and Mosimann were accompanied by orchestral music, dance performances, augmented reality and large-scale stage production.
Club Championship trophy unveiled
One of the ceremony’s key moments was the unveiling of the Esports World Cup Club Championship trophy, followed by the introduction of representatives from leading esports organisations competing for the overall club title.
The event began with a pre-show hosted by French content creator Doigby before transitioning into the main ceremony, which was broadcast globally. DJ Snake concluded the televised segment before performing an extended live set for spectators in Paris, while Mosimann closed the evening with a headline performance.
“The Opening Ceremony is our welcome to the world – that our historic event is open,” said Mike McCabe, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer at the Esports Foundation. “As we bring EWC 2026 to Paris for the first time, we wanted to celebrate the city through artists who have helped shape music and culture in France today. Aya Nakamura, DJ Snake, and Theodora each represent something different, but together they reflect the creativity and influence that make Paris such a special place to host this event.”
The opening ceremony also featured the debut of the Esports World Cup 2026 orchestral anthem, developed in collaboration with 2WEI Music and Hollywood Scoring. The composition will serve as the tournament’s official musical theme throughout the competition and broadcasts.
Following the opening event, attention now shifts to the competition, with matches scheduled daily across multiple venues in Paris as teams battle for the Esports World Cup Club Championship and one of the largest prize pools in esports history.
