Yes, former cricketer VVS Laxman will take over as the head coach of the Indian team in place of Gautam Gambhir during the Zimbabwe tour. Laxman will serve as the head coach not only for the Zimbabwe series but also for the 2026 Asian Games. It is noteworthy that VVS Laxman is the head of BCCI’s ‘Centre of Excellence’ (COE).

The Asian Games are to be held in Japan from 19 September to 4 October. The Indian team will go to Japan for this competition and the team has also been announced by BCCI. The West Indies team will tour India during the same period; Between 27 September and 17 October, three One-Day (ODI) and five T20 matches will be played between India and West Indies.
Due to a scheduling conflict between the Asian Games and the India-West Indies series, Gautam Gambhir will be included in the one-day (ODI) squad for the West Indies series. Meanwhile, the T20 team led by Shreyas Iyer will participate in the Asian Games under the coaching of VVS Laxman. Before that, Laxman will also be given the responsibility of Zimbabwe tour.
Some changes will also be made in the support staff of the Indian team for the Zimbabwe tour.
