Three former MPs who left TMC joined BJP, resigned from Rajya Sabha after assembly elections

Kolkata, 9 July. Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) seems to have completely disintegrated after losing power for one and a half decade due to the crushing defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Now in the latest development, three former TMC MPs – Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy and Prakash Chik Barik have joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). These three leaders had also left TMC along with resigning from Rajya Sabha membership last month.

Samik Bhattacharya gave BJP flag to Sushmita Dev, Sukhendu Shekhar and Prakash Chik.

These three leaders were inducted into the party in the presence of West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya. Bhattacharya welcomed the former MPs by giving them BJP flags at a program organized at the party’s Salt Lake office. Senior leaders of the state were also present in this program.

Dev, Rai and Barik had resigned from the Rajya Sabha and Trinamool Congress last month after the party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Bhattacharya said that the experience of these three former MPs will further strengthen the party in the state.

Samik Bhattacharya said, ‘Left Front ruled for 34 years, after which came Trinamool Congress rule. The politics that went on in West Bengal for so long rejected and opposed our federal structure. Instead of cooperating with the Centre, the path of confrontation was adopted, due to which all development came to a halt. In this environment, and expressing confidence in the leadership of Narendra Modi, three MPs resigned from the Trinamool Congress. Today Sushmita Dev, Prakash Chik Barik and Sukhendu Shekhar Roy have joined Bharatiya Janata Party. These three are veteran leaders and everyone knows their work in Rajya Sabha.

He said, ‘It is a happy occasion for us and the entire BJP is happy. On behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and as the state president, I—along with my workers, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari, the entire cabinet and the entire organization—wholeheartedly and with great pleasure welcome these three leaders.
