Praising Bhikhari Thakur, scholars like Rahul Sankrityayan praised him and called him a diamond in the rough. Bhikhari Thakur also popularized Launda dance. Even today the tradition of performing Launcha dance continues in Bihar. Recently, on the occasion of the birthday of former CM Lalu Prasad Yadav, Launda dance was staged in front of the audience.
Although Bhikhari Thakur has been honored with many awards and honours, recently the demand for giving him Bharat Ratna has intensified.
Bhojpuri star and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and famous singer Kalpana Patwari had demanded Bharat Ratna for Bhikhari Thakur. Manoj Tiwari had also written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding this.
Other Bhojpuri stars from Ravi Kishan to Khesari Lal Yadav and superstar Pawan Singh consider Bhikhari Thakur as their idol. Artists believe that the contribution that Bhikhari Thakur made to the Bhojpuri art field can never be forgotten.
Bhikhari Thakur, who brought the suffering of women to the world through his works and plays, died on 10 July 1971. Even today, the tradition of Launda dance by Bhikhari Thakur continues in Chapra, Bihar.
