World Bank has approved US $ 375.9 million to repair Pakistan’s power system. This money will be used to strengthen the country’s national power transmission network. This will provide relief to the common people from power cuts and clean energy will be available to homes and businesses.
The project is part of the ‘Boosting Energy Security through Transmission in Pakistan’ (BEST-PAK) programme. This is the first phase of a larger program that will last for 10 years. Its main objective is to modernize Pakistan’s electricity network so that electricity supply is better and frequent power cuts are reduced.
Pakistan Director of World Bank Bolormaa Amgaabazar Said that the economic situation of Pakistan is linked to the energy crisis there. He said that investment in new technology and strong infrastructure will reduce the cost of electricity. Also, the use of renewable energy on the grid will increase, which will benefit the general public and industries.
Pakistan has been a member of the World Bank since 1950 and has received more than $51.2 billion in aid so far. Currently, the World Bank has 52 operations running there, with a total commitment of $16.9 billion.
