Breathing stopped from Delhi to Gujarat, 19 people died due to heavy rains in UP, red alert issued in 17 states today

New Delhi: Monsoon has started showing its fierce form across the country. While the torrential rains on Thursday brought relief to some areas, it created a scene of devastation in a large part of the country. More than 45 people have lost their lives in various states including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat due to heavy rains, waterlogging, wall collapse and lightning.

19 died due to accidents and lightning

It has been a rainy monsoon season in Uttar Pradesh. A total of 19 people died tragically due to accidents and lightning strikes in different districts of the state. The Meteorological Department has predicted that rain and thundershowers will continue in the entire state for the next four days. Along with this, ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued in more than 60 districts including Lucknow.

Major accidents occurred in Uttar Pradesh

  • In Bulandshahr, the mud wall of a house suddenly collapsed and three people of the same family died on the spot after getting buried under the debris.
  • Two innocent people lost their lives due to waterlogging in Ghaziabad district. A seven year old child fell into an open drain in Sahibabad area. Apart from this, during waterlogging in a park located in Gyankhand of Indirapuram, there was electric shock from the transformer due to which the watchman of the society died.
  • 7 people died due to lightning in four different districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
  • Due to torrential rains in Meerut, Bijnor, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar, roads have been completely submerged. Dozens of villages in Bijnor and Saharanpur have been completely cut off from the main towns.

Preparations exposed in Delhi-NCR

The heavy rains that started early on Thursday exposed the administrative claims and preparations of the drainage system in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad. Water accumulated up to several feet in many VIP areas and underpasses. Due to which Delhi’s Bhogal underpass was completely submerged and an expensive BMW car got stuck there.

The traffic system was seen crawling throughout the day

A very shocking incident came to light in Vasundhara Sector 13, where suddenly the road caved in for about 15 feet and a car parked on the road got stuck in that deep pit. Apart from this, due to water logging in the basements of many residential societies and apartments of NCR, more than 200 vehicles were completely submerged and damaged. Due to huge potholes on the roads, fallen trees and waterlogging, the traffic system was seen crawling throughout the day.

9 people lost their lives in Surat

Deaths of 9 people have been confirmed in different rain-related accidents in Surat city of Gujarat. A flood like situation has arisen in many residential areas of Surat. Due to which the administration had to run the rescue operation on war footing. So far, about 3,900 people from low-lying and sensitive areas have been shifted to safe places.
