Failure of the batsmen or captaincy of Shreyas, why is Team India losing?
After removing Suryakumar Yadav from the captaincy, Team India has not been able to win a single T20 match. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team has lost 5 out of 6 matches, while one match was lost due to rain. He also had to face defeat from a low-ranked team like Ireland. Team India has tried many changes during the England tour but has not been able to win. Dropping Ravi Bishnoi and bringing Prince Yadav into the playing XI has proved to be a successful experiment. But victory still seems far away.
Question on Shreyas’s captaincy
Shreyas, who has taken 3-3 IPL teams to the finals, has enough captaincy experience. However, the beginning of his tenure as captain in international cricket has been very bad. He has not been able to give a single win to Team India in 6 matches. His captaincy is being criticized for not fielding the right playing XI. Shreyas is fielding with a team which has 6 left-handed batsmen in its top-7.
An emerging all-rounder like Suryansh Shedge is warming the bench, while Washington Sundar, who has been proving himself in T20 Internationals for almost 9 years, is being given opportunities on occasion. Besides, tampering with the batting order is also costing the team dearly. Shivam Dubey is sometimes being sent at number-8 and sometimes at number-5, due to which his batting has been affected.

Batsmen are continuously failing
The main reason for India’s continuous defeat is the failure of the batsmen. There have been 4 matches in the 5-match T20 series against England but except Shreyas and Abhishek Sharma, no Indian batsman has been able to cross the 100 mark. Shreyas has scored 190 runs in 4 innings at an average of 63.33 and strike rate of 155.73. Whereas Abhishek has scored 128 runs at a strike rate of 185.50.
After Shreyas-Abhishek, the highest run scorer for India is Shivam Dubey, who has scored only 71 runs at a strike rate of 129.09. Ishan Kishan has scored 66 runs at a strike rate of 115.78 and Tilak Verma has scored 51 runs at a strike rate of 118.60. Apart from these, no one has been able to reach 50 runs.

Are the spinners the reason for the defeat?
After the defeat in the England series, Shreyas’s captaincy and batting are being criticized as much as the performance of the Indian spinners. While England’s spinners have taken 8 wickets, Indian spinners have been able to take only 3 wickets. Indian spinners have also been quite expensive compared to England’s spinners. English spinners have spent 8.51 runs per over, while Team India’s spinners have given runs with an economy of 11.09.
Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar have got a chance to play one match each in England. Both remained empty handed. Axar Patel has bowled in 3 innings and taken 2 wickets, while Varun Chakraborty has taken 1 wicket in 2 innings. The economy of all except Akshar (9.30) is above 10.
