Political battle intensifies over Diljit Dosanjh’s Sutlej, Akali Dal announces screening in every village
New Delhi . Political and social debate has intensified in Punjab after Punjabi actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh’s film Satluj was removed from the OTT platform. Many organizations have raised questions over the film being removed from the platform shortly after its release. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal has made a big announcement saying that it will take this film to the people in every village and every area of Punjab so that the new generation can become familiar with that period of the state’s history which has been discussed for a long time.
Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the incidents and circumstances shown in the film should be brought before the society. He says that it is important for the coming generations to understand the difficult times of Punjab and for this purpose the party will screen the film in every village. He also said that it cannot be considered appropriate to prevent topics related to history from reaching people.
This film is said to be inspired by the life and struggle of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalda. The film sets the backdrop of cases involving alleged fake encounters and missing persons in Punjab during the 1990s. At that time, Khalda had reportedly claimed to have revealed many important facts by investigating such cases. This topic is at the center of the film and that is why it remains a topic of discussion.
After the film was removed from the OTT platform, a widespread debate started on social media about it. Many people demanded the film be made available again, while some organizations announced public screenings. Amidst this entire incident, reactions of political parties also started coming to the fore, due to which the matter became more discussed.
In this sequence, Akal Takht, the highest religious institution of Sikhs, has also announced to organize special Ardaas on July 14. The event will be held on the banks of river Satluj at Harike Pattan where prayers will be offered for peace to the souls of those people and justice for their families who are mentioned in the context of the events of that period. A large number of devotees and people from different sections of the society are expected to participate in the religious gathering.
On the other hand, different types of reactions are emerging regarding the decision to remove the film. Some people believe that review of films made on such sensitive subjects is necessary, while others are linking it to freedom of expression. Meanwhile, information has also come to light that a committee has been formed to review the circumstances of the case so that the entire incident can be investigated.
Presently Sutlej film is no longer just a subject of entertainment but it has become the center of history, politics, freedom of expression and social discussion. The entire country will keep an eye on the decisions and developments on this issue in the coming days.
