India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has described the historic Women’s Test against England at Lord’s as a turning point for the team. He said that victory in this match can end the disappointment from the T20 World Cup and will restore the confidence of the team. The captain also spoke candidly about the Women’s Test being held at Lord’s for the first time, red-ball cricket, Sri Charani and the future of the Women’s Test.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur believes that if India wins this match, then the pain of being out of the group stage in the recent T20 World Cup will be reduced to a great extent and the team will move forward with new confidence. Harmanpreet said that the Indian team could not perform as per its potential in the T20 World Cup. The team played well in some matches, but could not perform consistently throughout the tournament. He said- When we came to know that the first women’s Test was going to be held here after so many years, we were all surprised. I was not aware of this before. But I would say that it is late, not too late. I am happy that I got a chance to be a part of this historic match in my career.
He told that the entire Indian team is very excited about this match and all the players want to make this historic occasion memorable.
Red-ball cricket is both a challenge and an opportunity
Harmanpreet admitted that women players do not get many opportunities to play red-ball cricket, hence this format is definitely challenging. However, he said that the team has done several practice sessions in the last few days and the players appeared to be in good form. He said- We are not used to playing red-ball cricket, but when there is excitement about something, the players try to give their best.
Expressed desire to play more women’s tests
The Indian captain also expressed her opinion on the future of women’s Test cricket. She said that as a player she wants to play as many Test matches as possible, but it is for the ICC and the respective cricket boards to decide. Harmanpreet said that women’s cricket has progressed continuously in the last few years. India played a Test in March last year and now it has got another chance at Lord’s. She hopes that the number of women’s Test matches will increase further in the coming years.

Harmanpreet said that India has performed well in recent Test matches and the team’s record against England has also been strong. In such a situation, the players have decided that they will come together on the field and give their best performance.

The captain praised left-arm spinner Shri Charani, who is going to debut in the Lord’s Test. Regarding Charani, who was India’s most successful bowler in the T20 World Cup, Harmanpreet said that she is one of the most important bowlers of the team.
He said that Charani has consistently performed brilliantly not only in the World Cup but even before that. Whenever the team needs a wicket, she lives up to the expectations of the captain.
