Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received a big blow from the Delhi High Court in the check bounce case. The court on Friday upheld his conviction and expressed strong displeasure at his conduct. Also, stating that his behavior was “suspicious”, it directed the authorities concerned to send him back to jail. This case is from the year 2010. Rajpal Yadav took a loan of Rs 5 crore from M/S Murali Projects Private Limited to make his first film as a director ‘Ata Pata Lapta’. However, as the film failed at the box office, the loan could not be repaid in time and hence the dispute reached the court.

In April 2018, a magistrate court had convicted Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha Yadav and sentenced them to six months imprisonment in the check bounce case. Then in 2019, the session court also upheld this decision. Against this decision, Yadav filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court.
In June 2024, the High Court suspended his sentence and directed him to honestly pay the dues of around Rs 9 crore. However, according to court observations, Yadav did not fulfill his repeated promises. So on February 2 this year, the court ordered him to surrender. He was then lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
