Indraprastha Vikas Party merged with BJP, 16 councilors join BJP

New Delhi. Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP) formally merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday. All 16 councilors of IVP joined BJP under the leadership of party president Mukesh Goyal. With this, the number of BJP councilors in Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) increased to 139. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra announced the merger in a press conference held at Delhi BJP headquarters. During this, many senior leaders including Mayor Pravesh Wahi, Leader of the House in the Corporation Jaibhagwan Yadav, BJP General Secretary Vishnu Mittal were present.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed all the councilors and workers who joined BJP and said that they will get full respect and opportunity to work in the party. He said that now the people of these wards will get full benefit of the development works of the “Triple Engine” system of the Central and Delhi Government. He said that BJP is working for the development of Delhi by considering power as a medium of service.

Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra said that the merger of Indraprastha Vikas Party with BJP is a decision taken influenced by the leadership and development policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that with this, lakhs of people of 16 wards will get direct benefits of the government’s development schemes. He claimed that after the formation of the BJP government, funds for development works have been made available equally to all the councilors in Delhi.

Mukesh Goyal said that in the year 2023, during the Municipal Corporation government of Aam Aadmi Party, he was made the Leader of the House, but no development work was done during that tenure. He alleged that the councilors did not get adequate budget and only made statements. He said that after forming Indraprastha Vikas Party, they got support from BJP, hence all the 16 councilors unanimously decided to join BJP without any conditions.
