Mandhana-Harmanpreet’s half-centuries on the first day of the historic Lord’s Test, India all out for 285 runs.
London. For the first time in the 142-year history of women’s Test cricket, the Indian team scored 285 runs on Friday on the first day of the Test match being played at Lord’s ground. Thanks to the half-centuries of opener Smriti Mandhana (83), captain Harmanpreet Kaur (58) and Deepti Sharma (57), India reached a respectable score, although England prevented the visiting team from making a big score by taking wickets at regular intervals.
This match became historic as the Women’s Test was held at Lord’s for the first time. Before the start of the match, many former England women cricketers were honored and both the teams were honored to be a part of this memorable occasion.
After winning the toss, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt decided to bowl first. Early success for England was provided by Lauren Filer, who took the first wicket in Lord’s women’s Test history by dismissing Shafali Verma. After this, Lauren Bell and other bowlers maintained constant pressure on the Indian batsmen.
Smriti Mandhana batted brilliantly and scored 83 runs and handled India’s innings. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played an important inning of 58 runs, while Deepti Sharma also tried to put the team in a strong position by adding 57 runs.
However, England took wickets continuously in between. Debutant Maddy Villiers gave a big blow to India by bowling Harmanpreet Kaur. England’s bowling remained disciplined and the Indian team was eventually bowled out for 285 runs.
By the end of the day’s play, England had scored 21 runs for 1 wicket in their first innings. Tammy Beaumont was out early, while Maya Boushier remained unbeaten on 17 runs. England is currently 264 runs behind India.
