Heavy rains in many states of the country; Landslides, floods disrupt life, alert issued by IMD

New Delhi : From last few days there is a drastic change in the atmosphere. in many places Heavy rainhas literally taken over. It has more rainfall in the western Himalayan region, especially in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. On Friday, one person was killed and two others injured in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh. In both states, heavy rains have overflowed rivers and mountain streams, causing floods and landslides.

Hundreds of roads in the two states, including Uttarakhand’s Yamunotri highway, have been closed and property has been severely damaged. The torrential rains on Friday were so intense that schools in many areas had to be closed. The Meteorological Department has issued a three- to four-day rain warning for these two states, as well as northwest India and many other parts of the country. In Himachal Pradesh, Sirmaur and Solan districts have been worst hit by this severe weather. A 70-year-old man died after a stone fell in Kullu district.

There are also reports of people injured in landslides at several places on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway. Flooding has occurred in Tripura due to the heavy rains that have been going on for the past few days. The districts of Unoti, Khowai and Dhalai are the worst hit. About 11,000 people have been displaced by the floods and rains, while 4027 houses have been damaged.

118 roads closed including Yamunotri National Highway

Life in Uttarakhand has been disrupted due to floodwaters and landslides caused by heavy rains. 118 roads including Yamunotri National Highway are closed. Gangotri National Highway is yet to be reopened due to rains and frequent landslides. Many schools remained closed in seven districts including Dehradun on Friday due to heavy rains. It has come to light that an 18-year-old boy drowned in the river flood at Bhagwanpur in Haridwar district.

Heavy rains in Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh

According to the latest data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several states have received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rain (7-20 cm) was recorded over Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, West and East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar and almost all North Eastern states.
