Indian sprinter Animesh Kujur registered the fastest 100m time ever by an Indian on foreign soil after clocking a personal best of 10.14 seconds at the Fast Arms Fast Legs meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger event in Germany.
The 23-year-old finished second in the final on Friday, improving on the 10.19 seconds he had recorded in the heats earlier in the day.
His performance is now the second-fastest 100m by an Indian, trailing only Gurindervir Singh’s national record of 10.09 seconds set at the Federation Cup in Ranchi earlier this year.
Kujur heads to Commonwealth Games in top form
Kujur’s latest performance further strengthens his credentials ahead of his Commonwealth Games debut later this month in Glasgow. The Odisha sprinter now owns three of the five fastest 100m times ever recorded by an Indian.
Before Gurindervir’s national record-breaking run in May, Kujur had briefly held the Indian record in the event. He is also the current national record holder in the men’s 200m, the discipline in which he primarily competes.
The strong showing in Germany continues an impressive season for Kujur as he prepares to represent India at the Commonwealth Games. His latest personal best also signals encouraging form against international competition ahead of one of the biggest events of his career.
With the Commonwealth Games fast approaching, Kujur will look to carry his momentum into Glasgow as India aims for strong performances in the athletics competition.
