England become No.1 in T20Is after beating India 4-0

England defeated India by 56 runs in the fifth and final T20I to secure a 4-0 win in the five-match series. With their fourth consecutive win, the English team became the No.1 side in T20Is, going past the Indian National Cricket Team. Chasing 258 in 20 overs, the Men in Blue managed 201 for 8. None of the Indian batters went on to play a big innings, with Ishan Kishan reaching a half-century. The visiting side had an ordinary start as Abhishek Sharma (3) was dismissed by Jofra Archer.

Sanju Samson, who replaced Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, looked good during his short stay in the middle. He faced 14 balls to amass 27 runs, laced with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Ishan Kishan’s 35-ball 56 included 7 boundaries and 2 maximums.

Captain Shreyas Iyer hit 4 boundaries, making a contribution of 28 runs in 16 balls. Tilak Varma, who critics slammed for his slow batting in the previous games, managed to find form, taking 25 balls to score 53. The southpaw struck 4 sixes and 3 boundaries.

All-rounder Shivam Dube was undone on a score of 14 off 10 balls.

Sam Curran took three wickets while Adil Rashid claimed two scalps. The likes of Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, and Liam Dawson picked up one scalp each.

Earlier, the host nation went on a rampage after losing Phil Salt (6 off 9). It was Jos Buttler and Harry Brook’s show after that. The wicket-keeper scored 131 runs off 64 balls, with the help of 12 fours and 8 sixes. Brook was also impressive, managing 95 not out in 45 balls, packed with 8 maximums and 4 boundaries. The two added 233 runs for the second wicket, with England reaching 257 for 3 in 20 overs.

For India, Dube dismissed two batters while one wicket went to Prasidh Krishna.

The first contest between the two sides was called off due to rain. India have lost six T20Is in the recent weeks, with Ireland also registering a 2-0 win over the current world champions
