After losing the series 4-0 to England, Shreyas Iyer told the biggest shortcoming of the Indian team.

Delhi: After the embarrassing 4-0 defeat in the five-match T20 series against England, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer spoke openly about the team’s performance. Iyer admitted that Team India could not adapt itself quickly to the foreign conditions and this was the biggest reason for losing the series. He also admitted that the team had to suffer the consequences of poor fielding and frequent loss of wickets in batting.

Will have to adapt quickly to foreign conditions

After losing the fifth T20 match by 56 runs, Shreyas Iyer said that the Indian team has learned a lot from this entire series. According to him, the conditions in England kept changing in every match and the Indian players lagged behind in adapting themselves accordingly.

Iyer said,

‘We have learned a lot from this series. The most important thing is to adapt yourself quickly to foreign conditions. The conditions were changing in every match and we should have played accordingly. Better communication between players and learning from mistakes is also very important.

The team was punished for dropping the catch

The Indian captain admitted that fielding mistakes changed the course of the match. Team India dropped important catches of the England batsmen, of which the host team took full advantage.

In this context Iyer said,

‘Fielding plays a big role in winning the match. We dropped some easy catches. Had he taken the catch, perhaps England would have been limited to 220 or 225 runs and chasing the target would have been easier.

While chasing the target of 258 runs, the Indian batting once again disintegrated under pressure. On this, Iyer said that the team lost wickets at frequent intervals, due to which a big partnership could not be formed.

Praise for the batting of Butler and Brook

Shreyas Iyer also praised England’s Jos Buttler and Harry Brook. Both the batsmen completely snatched the match from India by adding 233 runs for the second wicket. He said that Jos Buttler and Harry Brook batted brilliantly. We also dropped his catches and from there the rhythm of the match completely changed.

India will now leave this series behind and focus on the challenges ahead. The biggest challenge before the team will be to perform better in foreign conditions and continuously improve in fielding and batting.
