England make history with 257 for 3 in 20 overs against India
Jos Buttler and Harry Brook were unstoppable in the fifth and final T20I against India. The duo went after the bowlers, leaving the Men in Blue shell-shocked at Southampton. Buttler scored 131 runs off 64 balls, including 12 boundaries and 8 sixes. On the other hand, England skipper Harry Brook posted 95 not out in 45 deliveries, with the help of 8 sixes and 4 boundaries,
India were searching for answers as the pair added 233 runs for the second wicket. Every Indian bowler leaked runs as the host nation reached 257 for 3 in 20 overs.
The Buttler-Brook stand helped England post the highest team total against India in T20Is, going past their previous best of 246 for 7 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai while going after the chase of 254 in the semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Brook, who was dropped twice, managed 95 runs off 45 deliveries, reaching his fifty in 19 deliveries while Buttler kept hitting big shots. He reached his first half-century in 34 deliveries, but the next took just 17 balls as he played the best knock of his T20I career.
Despite losing Phil Salt early on Prsidh Krishna’s delivery, India couldn’t stop the flow of runs. Buttler played shots to all parts of the ground while Brook batted fearlessly. Two England batters hammered Axar Patel and Prince Yadav as the hosts posted 16 sixes, leaving India captain Shreyas Iyer clueless.
The 233-run stand for the second wicket is the highest partnership for any wicket in the shortest format of the game, putting England in the driving seat to dethrone India from the top spot in the ICC Rankings for Teams.
