Hormuz Strait: Iran fired missile at cargo ship, America sought answer, closure of the route created a stir
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has fired a missile at a commercial cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The ship has been damaged by this attack and Iran has temporarily closed this important sea route. America has strongly condemned this action and has demanded Iran to immediately open the way.

IRGC has claimed that this attack was just a warning. They say the cargo ship did not follow the scheduled shipping route and ignored orders to change course. For this reason the ship was targeted.
The Donald Trump government has adopted a strict stance on this incident. America has demanded from Iran that it should admit to the world that the Strait of Hormuz is open and stop attacks on commercial ships. President Donald Trump has warned that if Iran does not publicly admit its mistake, the consequences will not be good for it.
According to reports, Iranian officials have privately told US advisers that the attack was a failure of their systems or the fault of a radical group who wanted to sabotage the talks. However, the White House wants Iran to accept this in front of everyone.
After this incident the tension between the two countries has increased further. America says that Iran has violated an agreement (MoU) signed three weeks ago, in which there was a promise of safe movement of ships. Iran argues that Article 5 of the agreement gives them the right to manage the traffic on this route.
To reduce tension, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reached Muscat, Oman, where he will meet with officials of Oman and Qatar. This dispute has had a direct impact on maritime trade. While only 15 ships have passed through this route in the last 24 hours, much less than usual, about 285 ships are still waiting.
On the other hand, IRGC Commander-in-Chief Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has taken a tough stance and said that Iran will take revenge for the aggression of America and Israel. He has warned that if America or its allies take any retaliatory action, Iran will also give a very strong response and will target new enemy targets in the region.
