Before the start of West Indies tour, Pakistan got a big shock, coach resigned from his post.

Delhi:Pakistan cricket team has suffered a big setback just before the West Indies tour. Actually, the team’s fielding coach Shane McDermott has resigned from his post. Currently he is on a tour of Australia with the team. His decision is being considered surprising for Pakistan Cricket Board also. The official reason for his resignation has not been revealed yet.

Let us tell you that Shane McDermott was made the fielding coach of Pakistan team a year ago. He was also going to be a part of the support staff of the Pakistan team for the Asian Games to be held in September, but before that he left the post.

Took responsibility a year ago

McDermott started his tenure with the Pakistan team in July 2025 with the T20 series against Bangladesh. He took over the responsibility of fielding coach in place of Mohammad Masroor.

During this period, he worked hard to improve the fielding of the team. In the training session, special attention was given to high-intensity drills and catching practice, due to which improvement was seen in the fielding of the players.

McDermott has worked with many countries

Shane McDermott is considered very experienced as a fielding coach. He has played the role of fielding coach with Bangladesh for three years and also with Sri Lanka for three years. After this he got a chance to work with the Pakistan team.

Didn’t get the same success after Steve Rixon

Pakistan’s fielding was once counted among the best fielding teams in the world. In the first tenure of Mickey Arthur, the team along with Steve Rixon performed brilliantly in this department.

However, after Rixon’s departure in 2018, Pakistan’s fielding continued to go through ups and downs. After him, many coaches like Grant Bradburn, Aftab Khan, Abdul Majeed and Mohammad Masroor came into this role, but the team could not achieve the same consistency as before.

PCB’s concerns increased before West Indies tour

Pakistan’s Test team is going to leave for West Indies tour this week, where it has to play one practice match and two Test match series. At such a time, the sudden resignation of the fielding coach is a matter of concern for both the team and the PCB.

At present, the Pakistan Cricket Board has not issued any detailed statement on the resignation of Shane McDermott, nor has the name of any new fielding coach been announced in his place. Now all eyes will be on who the PCB hands over responsibility for this important post before the West Indies tour.
