Honda India Strategy: Honda’s big bet on two-wheeler market, new cool models will be launched in the festive season!
New Delhi. Japan’s leading automobile company Honda Motor has expressed confidence in the long-term growth prospects of the Indian two-wheeler market. The company believes that the growing need for personal transportation, increasing participation of women in the workforce, rising demand for premium two-wheelers and better infrastructure in rural areas will drive the growth of this industry in the coming years.
Many new models will come in the festive season
Tsutsumu Otani, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), said that the company is preparing new products keeping in mind the changing needs of customers. He said that in the second half of this year, especially during the festive season, the company will launch many new models in the market.
Industry recorded strong growth in financial year 2025-26
According to Otani, the Indian two-wheeler industry performed better in FY 2025-26 due to improvement in rural demand, increasing sales of premium vehicles, strength in exports and favorable government policies.
According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), wholesale sales of two-wheelers in the country increased by 10.7 percent to 2,17,5,974 units in the financial year 2025-26, whereas in the previous financial year this figure was around 1.96 crore units.
Growth may continue in the current financial year also
Honda estimates that the industry’s growth will continue in the current financial year as well, although its pace may be somewhat slower than last year.
The company says that it is expected to perform better in the first half of the year due to strong domestic demand and positive industry environment. The performance in the second half will depend on factors like monsoon, rural income, global geopolitical conditions, logistics costs and raw material prices.
India remains an important market for Honda
Otani said India is a strategic and important market for Honda globally. The company’s focus is on offering products that meet changing customer expectations while strengthening both domestic sales and exports.
He said the company is committed to creating long-term and sustainable value in line with changing market conditions.
Focus will also be on electric vehicles
Honda made it clear that electric mobility is an important part of its long-term strategy. The company is preparing to continuously expand its electric two-wheeler portfolio in line with market demand and the development of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
