Devastation due to cloud burst twice within an hour in Anantnag! Flood havoc in Pahalgam, hotels and houses submerged in water

New Delhi: The weather wreaked such havoc in Anantnag district of Kashmir on Saturday night that two cloud bursts within just 60 minutes affected the entire area. After this, due to sudden floods in Pahalgam and Shangus area, many houses, hotels and fields were flooded. The strong current also brought with it mud, big stones and debris, due to which life was completely affected. However, it is a matter of relief that no casualties have been reported so far.

Flood creates chaos in Pahalgam and Shangus

After the cloud burst, the water level of drains in Pahalgam and Shangus areas increased rapidly. Within no time the water reached residential areas, hotels and fields. Debris accumulated at many places, due to which people had to face a lot of trouble. It also affected tourism activities and many tourists were forced to move to safer places.

Cloud burst twice in an hour

The first incident took place in the upper hilly area of ​​Chattargul in Shangus, where the Aripath drain suddenly swelled due to a cloudburst. The water coming with strong flow caused huge damage to the fields and apple orchards. According to local people, within a few minutes the entire area was hit by flood.

Within about an hour, the second incident took place in Overa Wildlife Sanctuary area of ​​Pahalgam. Here the water of Overa drain rose rapidly and entered many hotels, resorts and houses of local people. The sudden flood caused panic among tourists and local residents.

Administration issued high alert

After the incidents, the district administration has put all concerned departments on alert. Relief and rescue teams immediately reached the affected areas and tourists trapped in hotels were evacuated to safe places. Also, people have been advised to stay away from all water sources including Aripath and Overa drains.

Heavy rain warning in next 24 hours

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in Kashmir for the next 24 hours. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation and along with removing the debris, the damage is being assessed. Officials have appealed to the local people and tourists to remain alert in view of the weather and not to go out without essential work.
