Fake robbery story exposed in four hours: Driver himself had hidden five lakhs

  • Five lakh rupees hidden in the car recovered

New Delhi. KNK Marg police station of Rohini district has made a shocking revelation while solving the mystery of alleged armed robbery within just four hours. The driver who had lodged a complaint about three miscreants robbing him of Rs 5 lakh at pistol point, turned out to be the mastermind of the entire conspiracy. The police recovered the entire Rs 5 lakh hidden near the battery in the bonnet of his car and arrested the accused.

According to the police, on July 10, information about robbery was received through PCR near Dwarkadhish Apartment of Sector-26 Rohini located in KNK Marg police station area. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot, where the complainant, 42-year-old Gurnam Singh alias Happy was found. He told that he has been working as a driver and helper in a spare parts workshop located at Kashmiri Gate for the last ten years.

Gurnam told the police that his boss had sent him to Sector-14 Rohini with Rs 5 lakh from the workshop. It was alleged that a Thar SUV stopped his car on the way. Two of the three people aboard pointed their pistols and ran away after looting a bag full of cash. Based on the complaint, the police immediately registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and started investigation.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, a special team of KNK Marg police station was formed. The police first investigated the entire route mentioned by the complainant through technical means and CCTV footage. Investigation revealed that the complainant’s vehicle was not followed anywhere by any Thar SUV nor was it stopped. This made the police suspicious of the complainant’s story. After this, the police interrogated the workshop operators and confirmed that Rs 5 lakh had actually been handed over to Gurnam. However, during interrogation, Gurnam kept repeating his false story. As the suspicion deepened, the police searched the complainant’s car closely. During investigation, a cloth bag was found tied near the battery inside the bonnet of the car. On opening the bag, entire Rs 5 lakh was found safe in it. Representatives of the workshop identified the recovered amount and confirmed that it was the same amount that was handed over to Gurnam.

After the evidence came before the police, Gurnam Singh alias Happy broke down and confessed to his crime. During interrogation, he told that he was struggling with financial crisis. For this reason he planned to grab the owner’s money. He first hid the cash in the bonnet of the car and then fabricated a fake robbery story and called the police control room, so that no one would suspect him.

Police have arrested the accused Gurnam Singh alias Happy. Additional sections of the Indian Justice Code related to misleading the police by giving false information and breach of trust have also been added to the case against him.
