His death was confirmed by the family. Her granddaughter Apsara Vydyula shared an emotional message on social media saying that her beloved grandmother and great singer is no more. He said that Janaki, who passed away peacefully amidst the family, has left happiness and memories in the lives of crores of people through her songs. He also appealed to people to respect the privacy of the family.

S Janaki’s name is recorded in golden letters in the history of Indian film music. She sang approximately 48 thousand songs in her six decade long career and this achievement makes her one of the most song recorded singers of the country.
