‘Rao Bahadur’ OTT release: When and where to watch Satyadev’s film

Satyadev’s psychological dark comedy Rao Bahadur is set to make its digital debut, bringing its unusual story to a wider audience after its theatrical release.

The film had arrived in cinemas on July 3 and was presented by Mahesh Babu and Namrata Shirodkar under GMB Entertainment. It had been written, directed and edited by Venkatesh Maha.

Netflix had announced that Rao Bahadur would start streaming on July 31 in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages. The announcement had featured a poster showing Satyadev in an aged royal appearance.

The streaming platform had shared the update with the caption, “Samajika nibandhanalatho mee burrani kadagadaniki Rao Bahadur osthunnadu! (Rao Bahadur is coming to brainwash you with social norms!) Watch Rao Bahadur, out 31 July, in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam on Netflix.”

The film had followed the story of Bhuvanam Ramappa Rao Bahadur, played by Satyadev. The character had been shown as an ageing aristocrat facing personal struggles while dealing with changing social values.

Rao Bahadur had marked Venkatesh Maha’s second collaboration with Satyadev after Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya, which was released in 2020. The film had also featured Vikas Muppala and Deepa Thomas in important roles.

The movie had been produced by Anurag Reddy, Sharath Chandra, Chinta Gopalakrishna Reddy and Eshwaran Vijayaraghavan. It had been backed by production banners including A+S Movies, Srichakraas Entertainments, Mahayana Motion Pictures and Better Invest Media Vision Fund.

According to reports, the film had earned ₹11.44 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. After its cinema release, discussions around its digital premiere had continued among viewers.

The makers had explored themes related to social norms, fading aristocracy and the life of its central character. The OTT release had given the film another opportunity to reach audiences across different regions and languages.
