As soon as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government came to power in West Bengal, there was a change in the mid-day meal menu of schools and egg was removed. After a lot of controversy, now the West Bengal government has made a big change in the food system, under which the ISKCON organization will provide satvik food to the children in schools from August 1. Along with this, eggs will also be given separately through self-help groups for the health and strength of the children so that the quality of food remains good and the children can get complete nutrition.
A major step has been taken to improve school meals. Officials have announced that from August 1, under a new project, the ISKCON organization will feed lunch to children in big schools in and around Kolkata. Under this scheme, children will get completely pure and satvik vegetarian food. Its main objective is to provide clean and good food to children so that their health remains good.

Controversy over eggs
When it was first revealed that ISKCON would cook food in schools, many people and leaders had raised the question whether the eggs provided to children would be stopped. Many leaders and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that growing children should definitely get eggs that give them strength. To end this controversy, the government has made it clear that there will be no shortage of strength and protein in the children, for which eggs will be given separately to the children through self-help groups.
Under this scheme, it has also been decided that from August 1, the amount given for food to a child in primary schools will be increased from Rs 6.78 to Rs 10. Apart from this, children’s food will be cooked on gas in schools and gradually solar panels will also be installed in all schools.

Along with this scheme, full attention is also being given to improving the schools of the state. Officials have informed that under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, a total of Rs 296.64 crore has been sent to the bank accounts of 80,375 government and aided schools of West Bengal through net banking. It has also been told that 60 percent of this money is given by the Central Government and the remaining 40 percent is given by the State Government. Talking about the previous system, the administration said that due to the mistakes and negligence of the previous governments, schools were not getting this money for the last three years, but now the situation is being completely rectified by rectifying all these shortcomings.

Apart from providing food and financial help to the children, many other instructions have also been given to make the schools better. Clean toilets, clean drinking water and proper utensils for eating are being provided to the children in schools. Along with this, vacant places in schools will be filled and about 50,000 new teachers will be recruited so that children can get better education.
