Amidst ups and downs, the stock market closed with a slight fall, Sensex weakened by 70 points.
Mumbai, 28th July. The domestic stock market, which witnessed a tremendous surge on the first day of the trading week after a major decline in five consecutive sessions, remained almost stable amid the ups and downs on Tuesday and both the benchmark indices closed with slight losses. In this sequence, while BSE Sensex weakened by 70 points, NSE Nifty slipped by 11 points.
Market experts say that in fact, ahead of the monetary policy meetings of the world’s major central banks this week and amid heavy selling in other markets of Asia, investors adopted a cautious attitude.
Sensex fell 69.86 points and closed at 76,765.92
Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)’s benchmark index Sensex based on 30 shares closed at 76,765.92, down 69.86 points or 0.09 per cent. The index hit a high of 76,988.48 points and a low of 76,672.77 points during trading. During this period the index fluctuated by 315.71 points. Among Sensex related companies, shares of 17 strengthened while shares of 13 weakened.
Nifty closed at 23,985.35 with a slip of 10.60 points
On the other hand, the National Stock Exchange (NSE)’s standard index Nifty based on 50 shares closed at 23,985.35 points with a slight decline of 10.60 points or 0.04 percent. Among the companies associated with Nifty, 30 stocks remained on the green mark while 20 stocks recorded a decline.
Hindustan Unilever shares fell the most by 6.97 percent
Among the companies included in the Sensex group, Hindustan Unilever’s share fell the most by 6.97 percent. The stock remained in loss due to reduction in net profit of the company. The company’s consolidated net profit stood at Rs 2,680 crore in the June quarter, down 3.17 per cent year-on-year.
Apart from this, shares of Bharat Electronics, NTPC, ICICI Bank, Power Grid and Reliance Industries also remained in loss. On the other hand, the gaining stocks included Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Eternal, Tech Mahindra, Infosys and Titan.
FIIs sold shares worth Rs 1,688.23 crore
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,688.23 crore on Monday. At the same time, global oil standard Brent crude fell by 2.82 percent to $ 85.87 per barrel.
