Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab President Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government over the worsening drug menace, stating that the Bhagwant Mann government’s much-publicised “Yudh Nashian Virudh” (War Against Drugs) campaign has completely failed. He said the tragic deaths of five young men due to drug overdose in Mohali’s Amb Sahib Colony within just the last 18 days have exposed the alarming reality of the drug crisis in Punjab.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families of Amb Sahib Colony, Kewal Singh Dhillon said it is both heartbreaking and shameful that a mother has lost both her sons to drug addiction. In another tragic case, a woman has been left alone to raise her two young children after her husband died due to drug abuse.
He said these are not merely statistics but shattered families whose lives have been devastated because of the government’s failure to fulfil its promises. Dhillon said that Arvind Kejriwal had promised the people of Punjab that drugs would be eradicated within three months, but today the situation has worsened instead of improving.
Punjab’s youth are losing their lives every single day. He further alleged that when drug-affected families and ordinary citizens raise their voices against drug traffickers, they are openly threatened, which clearly indicates that the traffickers enjoy administrative and political patronage.
The BJP leader further said that public faith in the system has eroded to such an extent that families devastated by the drug menace are being forced to put up posters to sell their homes and stage protests. He said the increasing number of drug-related deaths and the growing public anger are clear evidence of the complete failure of the AAP government’s governance on this issue.
Kewal Singh Dhillon said that the AAP government’s so-called promise of “change” has come at a heavy cost for the people of Punjab and has pushed the state back by several years. He asserted that the drug menace can be eradicated only through strong leadership and a robust policy framework, not through publicity campaigns and advertisements.
He appealed to the people of Punjab to elect a Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state to secure the future of their children, stating that a double-engine government would ensure the complete eradication of the drug menace from Punjab.
