America attacks southern Iran, blasts in major port cities and Qeshm island
Tehran/Washington. The situation in West Asia has again become serious due to the war of supremacy between America and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. The US military has launched fresh attacks on southern Iran. Strong explosions also hit the port cities of Bandar Abbas, Sirik and Jask, as well as the island of Qeshm. A day earlier, the US Army had attacked at least 140 targets in Iran. In response, Tehran launched retaliatory attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Jordan.
According to reports by CNN, Al Jazeera and IRNA, US President Donald Trump claims that the Strait of Hormuz is open. Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority has said that movement from there is not allowed until stability and peace are restored. The latest confrontation that started this weekend has further increased diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
A US military spokesman said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked another commercial ship in the waterway. Hence a fresh attack was launched. US allies said they faced Iranian attacks over the weekend. Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and United Arab Emirates are prominent among these countries. America claims that the IRGC is continuously firing on ships in Hormuz.
US Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said an Iranian cruise missile and a one-way attack drone were shot down. He said that the purpose of American attacks is to weaken Iran’s military capability. Valiollah Hayati, deputy governor of Iran’s Khuzestan province, said one person was killed and four others were injured when a missile hit an irrigation pump center on a farm in Mahshahr this morning.
